VOTING
The first step to voting is to make sure you are registered and your information is up to date. New residents can register to vote and must be a resident of their city or township for at least 30 days by Election Day.
To register to vote in Michigan, an individual must:
⋅ Be a Michigan resident
⋅ Be a United States citizen
⋅ Be at least 16 years of age (and 18 by Election Day)
⋅ Not be currently serving a sentence in jail or prison
Mail In (Absentee) Voting Information
All registered voters in Michigan can vote by mail using an absentee ballot. You don't need a reason. Voting with an absentee ballot allows you to vote prior to Election Day without leaving your home.
Early voting
In November 2022, Michigan voters overwhelmingly approved a constitutional amendment that gives voters the right to vote early and in person at early voting sites before statewide and federal elections. Communities may also choose to provide early voting for local elections.
